Terms and Conditions

These terms govern your use of OwnLore. They are deliberately kept as short as possible — what is in here should be readable.

1. Scope and provider

These Terms and Conditions apply to every contract about the use of the OwnLore service between the provider and you. The provider is the person named in the imprint at the address given there; OwnLore is offered under the 5pieces brand. Deviating or supplementary terms only become part of the contract if we expressly agree to them in text form.

A consumer within the meaning of these terms is any natural person who enters into the contract for purposes that are predominantly outside their trade, business or profession.

The German version of these terms is the binding one. This English translation is provided for convenience.

2. What OwnLore is

OwnLore is a hosted MCP server (Model Context Protocol). It makes a personal archive of Markdown notes — your “brain” — readable and writable for AI tools.

What matters is where those files live: exclusively in storage that you provide and control — a folder in your Google Drive, a GitHub repository or your own server via FTP/FTPS or SFTP. We run the connection, the safeguards and the versioning. We do not run your storage, and we do not keep the contents of your notes.

OwnLore is not itself an AI service and does not provide a language model. Which AI tool you connect is your decision; that tool's behaviour and terms are a matter between you and its provider.

3. How the contract comes about

Registering a user account creates a free contract of use for that account. This does not yet create a paid subscription.

You enter into the paid subscription by choosing a billing period in the dashboard and completing the payment process on our payment provider's page. The paid contract comes into existence only when that process is completed. The display of plans in the dashboard is not a binding offer but an invitation for you to make one.

We do not store the contract text separately. You can view, print and save these terms on this page at any time; your invoices are available in the payment provider's customer portal.

4. User account

You need an account to use the service. The details you provide must be accurate, and the email address must be yours — it is how we reach you.

Keep your password secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you suspect someone else has access, change the password and let us know.

One account holds exactly one brain. If you want to keep several separate archives, create several accounts.

5. Prices, trial and payment

OwnLore costs €2.99 per month or €19.99 per year. These are final prices. Under section 19 of the German VAT Act (small business rule) no VAT is charged and none is shown.

New accounts can try OwnLore free for 30 days. A payment method is stored to start the trial but is not charged during that time. If you cancel before the trial ends, no costs arise; otherwise the trial automatically becomes the paid subscription you chose.

The free trial is available once per storage location. If you connect storage for which a trial has already been used, the subscription starts without a new trial. This does not restrict your access — only the free period is omitted.

Payments are handled by Stripe. The amount is due in advance at the start of each billing period. If a payment fails, the payment provider retries it over several days; only after that can access be restricted.

6. Term and cancellation

The subscription runs for the period you chose — one month or one year — and renews automatically for the same period unless it is cancelled.

You can cancel at any time with effect from the end of the current billing period, without notice period and without giving reasons. Cancel in the customer portal reachable from the dashboard, or informally by email. Access remains until the end of the period you have paid for.

We may terminate the contract with one month's notice to the end of a billing period. The right of either party to terminate for good cause remains unaffected.

You can close your free user account at any time by sending us an informal message.

7. What happens when it ends

When the subscription ends we block AI tools from accessing your brain. What we do not do is cut you off from your own data.

Your notes live in your own storage and stay there untouched — we delete nothing there. The dashboard, the storage connection and in particular migrating to different storage remain usable after the subscription has ended. This commitment is part of the contract, not a case-by-case courtesy.

8. Your obligations

You confirm that you are entitled to use the storage you connect, and that the content stored there infringes neither third-party rights nor applicable law.

  • Do not store or distribute unlawful content.
  • Do not place automated load on the service to a degree that impairs operation for others.
  • Do not circumvent security measures and do not attempt to access other people's accounts or brains.
  • Do not pass on credentials or MCP tokens to third parties.
  • Do not claim the free trial more than once.

Backups of your notes are your responsibility. OwnLore versions your files and takes a snapshot before every change — those snapshots also live in your storage and are no substitute for an independent backup.

9. Availability

We operate the service with the care of a diligent provider but do not owe any particular level of availability. Maintenance, faults at upstream providers and events beyond our control can cause interruptions. We announce planned maintenance in advance where possible.

OwnLore depends on third-party services — your storage provider and your AI tool. If one of them fails or changes its interfaces, use may be restricted without that being attributable to us.

10. Changes to the service, prices and terms

We may develop the service further as long as its contractual core is preserved. We will notify you of changes to these terms or to prices by email at least six weeks before they take effect.

If you do not object before they take effect, the changes are deemed accepted; we will point this out separately in the notification. If you do object, the contract ends when the change takes effect and we refund amounts paid in advance on a pro-rata basis.

11. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act, and to the extent of any guarantee we have given.

For slight negligence we are liable only for breach of a material contractual obligation — an obligation whose fulfilment makes proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose observance you may regularly rely. In that case liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract.

Liability is otherwise excluded. For loss of data we are liable only up to the amount that would have been required for recovery had you made proper and regular backups.

12. Final provisions

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in the EU, mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected.

If you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from this contract is our place of business.

The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.

Should any provision of these terms be invalid, the remainder of the contract stays in force.
